Safety is foundational to our service at Gonow. It informs everything we do, from how we design and maintain our vehicles, to how we educate riders and work with cities to provide safer riding environments. This is why over 99.99% of Gonow trips ended without a reported incident in 2025. This work is informed by our more-than one billion rides served, helping us make proactive, prevention-focused decisions to improve safety for riders and non-riders alike.
We're committed to Target Zero: the belief that every crash can be prevented. That's why we take a safe systems approach across our entire service, from how our scooters are engineered, to how we educate riders, to how we enforce safe riding. Where something is within our control, we keep working to make it better. Where it isn't, we partner with cities to push for Target Zero policies, including street designs that protect the most vulnerable road users and proven regulations that reduce the risk of crashes.

Every scooter in our fleet is chosen and maintained with safety and reliability in mind. Wide, grippy footboards, responsive brakes and bright lights help riders feel confident on every trip, while sturdy kickstands and a low centre of gravity keep scooters stable, whether they're being ridden or parked, so everyone on the street stays safer. Each scooter is equipped with 360 degree haze lighting and a headlight for after dark visibility.

Remember to follow your local laws and the rules set out in our user agreement before hopping on a GONOW. Violating the rules can lead to warnings, fees, account suspension or even permanent removal.

Riding with a friend? Unlock a second vehicle so you can both cruise safely.
speed, restrictions and parking zones
Our scooters automatically slow down in yellow zones, stop in red zones and lock if ridden outside the service area. You can only end your ride in the green parking zones shown in the app.
Ride sober
If you've been drinking, leave the scooter and grab a lift or a taxi instead.
No tricks or stunts
Keep both wheels on the ground — no jumping, skidding or burnouts.

Beginner Mode
Beginner Mode is designed to make your first ride on a Gonow smoother and more comfortable by reducing the max speed before the motor disengages, so first-time or early riders can get the feel for riding at a comfortable speed and build confidence from there. Beginner Mode helps to make Gonow accessible to more riders, especially new riders who may be more apprehensive at first.
Helmets
We strongly recommend wearing an approved, well-fitted helmet every time you ride. Make sure it's sized, fitted and fastened according to the manufacturer's instructions. Where the law requires a helmet, you must wear one to use our services.
